Can Withdrawal Of Birth Control Pill Cause Brown Discharge With Acne On Face?

Hi There. My last period was June 15 and started taking pills on the fourth day of my period. However, I abruptly stopped taking my pills one week early due to a pimple reaction to my face. On July 11, I had a light dark brown/light discharge and thought it was my period already. On the second and third day, these discharge became lighter and brown in color. Seven days after the discharge, July 18, I took a pregnancy test but came out negative. Could the dischage be my period? Can I proceed w/ taking my pills if I am unsure if it was my period or not? Thanks in advance. I am 5'4 in height, around 115 lbs and have always had an irregular menstrual cycle

Hello,

You can restart taking the pill right away. Bleeding following premature discontinuation can appear minimal and light.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Lekshmi Rita Venugopal, General & Family Physician
