Can Weight Reduction Cause Vaginal Bleeding?

I stopped having a period almost 8 years ago at the age of 42. I had gained lots of weight. I got up to 376 pounds. I lost down to 313 and got to a stand still. Stayed there for about a year and a half. I have being really working hard for the past 4 months to lose more weight. I have lost 32 pounds. I started spotting a day or so last month. This past Saturday, I spotted again, bright red blood, for a couple of hours. Then nothing. Could it be from the weight loss?

Hello,

You were not having periods since 8 years, you gained a lot of weight. Presently you are spotting. Vaginal bleeding can occur due to stress, eating disorders and excess weight loss in a short interval of time. Spotting refers to menstrual bleeding that occurs between a woman's regular periods. No worries if you are spotting. As you continue to lose weight and as your hormonal levels start coming to normalize you will start having regular periods.

You have not mentioned if you are on implant / some other contraceptive method or are sexually active or not. Take home made food rich in minerals. Prefer to take boiled food over fried, oily, junk , packaged food to help lose weight. Do regular walking and exercises. Stay away from addictions, sugar, trans fat, refined flour, red meat, full fat dairy products, etc.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
