Can Type 2 Herpes Be Caused Non-sexually?

I started dating my ex-boyfriend in June 2010, and in Feburary when I started going to the OB/GYN I found out that I had type 2 herpes. I got tested every year before since 2007 and never had anything. My ex doesn't have it. Is that possible? Should I retake the test or do a different test?

thank you for query.the dates are too old to comment.but still herpes whether type 1 or 2 can be transmitted by sexual route or by kiss or by skin to skin contact.there are chances that you would have got it earlier in your life through any of these modes .They can present symptomatically as vesicles etc.Sometimes even asymptomatic individuals are also found and they have antibodies detected which indicate past infection.if the antibodies are IGG they are more specific than IGM. You need not test again if IGG otherwise if IG M positive then you get it done again for IG G.You can get back to me for any clarifications with the photos and details.Dr Bharatesh D Basti Dermatologist and Venereologist
