Can The Medial And Meniscus Tears On The Knee Be Cured Without The Minesctomy Surgery?

Pain and swelling and stiffness in right knee since end of October. MRI two weeks ago showed both medial and lateral meniscus tears. Dr. says minesctomy is best course of action. That is scheduled for the day after xmas. In last 10 days, my symptoms have improved quite a bit. Swelling is down, range of motion is almost fully returned, pain has declined a lot. Knee still does not feel fully 100 per cent, but I m now wondering if I need surgery. I am a runner and want to return to full activity if possible. Have been working out as I can tolerate on stationary bike and elliptical machine, and have been able to do those activities. 57 year old male, runner and bicyclist for 36 years, no prior history of knee problems. Wanting an opinion about whether or not my type of injurey could heal without surgery. Thanks!

HI
Thank for asking to HCM
Knee injury is bit challenging for the doctor and for the patient also, if the meniscus being teared, then usually it requires surgery still it is all depends upon the clinical condition of patient if it does not hurts any more and does not effects the walking then no need to go for surgery, but you will have to take extra care of your joint till it get fully normal gait, like the knee joint should never be bend beyond 90 degree, while go to sleep the joint should be rest in 45 degree position, then this will be fine without the surgery, your wont go for any exercise with meniscus tear you just forget about it, have nice day.
