Can Taking Contraceptive Pill Cause Weight In My Stomach Area And Stomach Aches?

Hello, I took the morning after pill within 24 hours of having unprotected sex, a week later I got something that looked like a period but it was very light and only lasted for 3 days. Now about 3 days after that it looks like I have gained weight in my stomach area and have really bad stomach aches. Is this normal?

Hi thanks for posting.

Yes, it could be the side effect of the pill. You can have irregular bleeding, stomach cramps, bloatedness etc. Your period might be a week earlier than expected, may be lighter or heavier than usual. All these problems usually resolve in your next menstrual cycle.

You should meet a doctor when
- if your period is more than a week late(to do a pregnancy test)
- if you experience excessive bleeding which does not reduce even after 3 days

Best wishes.
