Can Stress Cause Trembling In Hands?

I was feeling trembling of hands, this may be due to some stress also. I visited doctor and he prescribed Proxetine and Beta TR 40. I came to know that beta TR 40 is beta blocker. Though my BP generally remains in control (70-110) and do not take any BP medicine. I was just thinking that whether taking beta TR40 may cause lowering of BP? Second question is that how to stop these medicine once started and taken for say a month or so? The third question is - should I follow any diet plan or life style change?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

Yes, stress can induce tremors and also that a congenital condition like essential tremors can be triggered with stress and anxiety. Beta blockers are helpful because they lower stress hormones too, and help to decrease frequency of tremors. In higher doses it can cause lowering of BP but not in the dose you mentioned however in some individuals, pulse can be unusually lowered or heart slows down which in turn can cause low BP and this side effect should be carefully monitored. Duration of therapy depends on settlement of symptoms like if you feel that anxiety is under control and frequency of tremors has decreased it can be stopped. Also get a Thyroid profile done.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further. Wishing you a speedy recovery.
