Can Stress And Anxiety Cause Hair Growth All Over The Body?

I am a 23 year old male. In the last few weeks hair has started growing all over my body- on my cheeks, under my eye, side area of the trunk, basically everywhere. Hairs that were smaller in length is long now. I can see the little goosebumps like structures appearing on my trunk area with hair poking out. It had been years since body hair had stopped growing post puberty. Do I have hypertrichosis? I went to my family doctor for a blood test for TSH and other indicators, and I have a follow up appointment soon. However, they did not call me about the results which means all of my indicators are normal. Additionaly, I don't think my doctor is taking my concern very seriously. I know the amout of hair I am growing isn't normal for my family. I can see massive growth daily. multiple hairs growing out of one follicle. Lately, because of the period of anxiety had been going through, poor diet, poor sleep and excercise, I had gained a lot of weight. Could it be because of that? please help.

Dear
Welcome to HCM
We understand your concerns

I went through your details. I suggest you not to worry much. Hypertrichosis (also called Ambras syndrome) is an abnormal amount of hair growth over the body. Hypertrichosis is diagnosed clinically via the occurrence of hair in excess of what is expected for age, sex, and ethnicity in areas that are not androgen-sensitive. To determine whether you have Hypertrichosis, androgen sensitivity is to be measured. Please query your doctor about this.

There is another aspect to your doubt. As you are already having anxiety related symptoms, you could be obsessing with normal hair growth. That could be the reason why your doctor did not take it seriously. Your doubts shall be cleared when you take the next appointment.

If you require more of my help in this aspect, Please post a direct question to me in this website. Make sure that you include every minute details possible. I shall prescribe some psychotherapy techniques which should help you cure your condition further.

Hope this answers your query. Available for further clarifications.
Good luck.
