Can Smoking Marijuana Regularly Impact Pulse Rate?

i am 23 years old, 5'5, and 150 pounds. i just had a baby 3 months ago so i am not quite back to my normal weight. i went to the doctor for a sore throat and found out my pulse is at 40bpm. i am now wearing a holter monitor for 24 hours. the doctor never asked me anything about drug use. i smoke marijuana once or twice a day, and sometimes after i smoke, my heartbeats feel irregular. could this have anything to do with my low pulse, should i tell the doctor i smoke? should i smoke while on the monitor since it is apart of my daily routine?

Hi, We understand your concern.

Smoking weed is not good for health.Especially when you are breast feeding as it can cause side effects in your baby.If you were to be my patient i would have suggested you to stop smoking weed.

Marijuana has been shown to produce irregularities in heart beat in few instances. At low dose it produces tachycardia immediately after use, after few hours bradycardia have been reported. However bradycardia leading to 40 bpm has not been shown. It could be due to other reasons which needs to be evaluated.

Yes,You will have to tell everything to your doctor. As non disclosure of all the information might lead to wrong diagnosis and faulty treatment. It is better to avoid smoking at least until your cardiac status improves.

Hope the answer has helped you.
