Can Same Blood Group Be A Cause For Infertility?

Hi, me and my girlfriend have been together for almost 6 years now, we have the same blood type (b+). We are afraid that having the same blood type is the reason why until today we can't bear a child? Can this be a valid reason? And we also heard from other people that having the same blood type couple if the can bear a child greater risk of having a mentally retarded children, is this true too?

Hello, I would be happy to help you with your question.

Having the same blood type as your girlfriend is NOT related to getting pregnant or difficulty with fertility. Also, the other rumor that you heard regarding having a mentally handicapped child is completely untrue. The only thing that I can suppose is that if two RELATED persons have a child, they are more likely to have genetic problems. Many unrelated persons have the same blood type and almost all of them would be expected to have normal pregnancies and healthy deliveries.
