Can Peeling Of Skin Be Connected To Sunburn?

Yesterday my skin began peeling, or more like shedding, off the soles of my feet. Large pieces, similar to a sunburn but most definitely NOT sunburn. The tops are peeling too, though not nearly to the extent of the bottoms. I chalked it up to worse than normal winter feet, but today I noticed my 15 mo old son s foot has a spot beginning to peel as well. His skin isn t dry at all. He is breast fed, could it be something environmental? Coincidence? What could be the cause??

Hello,

I understand your concern for skin peeling. It appears from your query that you have got peeling of skin due to suburn.

In most of the case of sun burn when there is over exposure of sun light is present then there is more tendency of pain and burning after the repeated episodes. In majority of the patients it is not bothersome and self resolving condition which most of the times gets better by itself.

In my patients with your kind of condition I suggest them to apply a mild steroid lotion such as desonide for few days of period. In nearly all of the patients it is enough and the skin gets peeled off to get normal color.

For maintenance therapy if I were your treating doctor then would have prescribed you a cream containing moisturizing factors to be applied at night time.

I also suggest you to reduce the sun exposure on higher side.

All the best.
