Can Low Potassium Levels Lead To Concussions And Vomiting?

I had a concussion on March 3 and last Wednesday night I slept walked out of the house and across the streets and walked down the street and sat infront of someone s house for a couple hours until someone found me my husband that is and he put me to bed after cleaning my bare feet I cannot remember any of it I don t do drugs and I do not drink alcohol so is there a diagnosis? By the way after my concussion I was hospitalized because I could not stop vomiting I was there for three days, I had low potassium other then that all tests were normal ct was normal!

Hello,

Welcome to Health Care Magic.

Thanks for writing.

I am Dr.Saddiq ul Abidin. I have read you question completely, i understand your concern and will try to help you in best way possible.

Concussion !
The scenario you described may be linked in a way that you initially developed vomiting and because of the vomiting you lost your potassium and because of low potassium levels you had delirium or psychosis.
With excessive vomiting you can lose a lot of potassium and this condition is called hypokalemia. In this state the clinical condition may present in the form of psychological symptoms as delirium and psychosis. As you CT Brain is normal so you don't need to worry about it. Just treat the underlying cause of vomiting and once they settled you need to replace the potassium loss by diet such as bananas and citrus fruits. Get you potassium levels checked regularly and you will be fine.

I hope this answered your question. If you have more queries I am happy to answer.Otherwise rate and close the discussion
