Can L-arginine Supplement Causes Swollen And Itchy Lips?

My lips have been swollen, itchy & red for about a week now. I have been on armour tyroid for years and sometimes with the dry heat of winter this happens. Recently I began supplementing l-arginine. Could this be causing an allergic reaction in my lips?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

Allergic reactions in the form of itching and swelling of face, lips or throat pain can occur with L-arginine. I would suggest you to stop using the drug and start anti-histamines or steroids to reduce the allergic symptoms. It is safe to discontinue the drug to avoid future allergies.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
