OBGYN, Maternal and Fetal Medicine 's  Response
Hi, I have gone through your question and understand your concerns. Mirena contains progesterone which has the side effect of irregular spotting.
However, it is not known to cause heavy menstrual bleeding. It can be due to hormonal disturbances or due to infection or endometriosis or any other pathology in the uterus.
You should get properly examined by an OBGYN specialist and investigated including hormonal profile, ultrasound and pap smear and get properly treated.
Hope you found the answer helpful.
Wishing you good health.
