Can Ibuprofen Be Taken Instead Of Oxycodone To Control Pain After Medial Patellofemoral Ligament Reconstruction?
I had a Medial Patellofemoral Ligament reconstruction done 6 days ago. My doctor prescribed Oxycodone to control pain, but I m not in severe pain anymore and would rather not take that stuff any longer than I have to. Is it safe to take ibuprofen instead? I looked online and some doctors say not to take any NSAIDS after an MPFL reconstruction and others recommend it. If I can t take ibuprofen, are there any over the counter pain meds I can safely take? Something other than acetaminophen which does nothing for me.
I have gone through your query. You may not be in pain because Oxycodone is going on. It is usually given because it is beneficial to have early movements after MPFL reconstruction to prevent the adhesion. It is safe to use Ibuprofen, but it will not help in neuromuscular pain much and hence decreased movement. Once you start weight bearing exercises, and pain subsides, oxycodone can be stopped after consulting your treating doctor.
