Can I Take The Oral Tablets Through Rectum For Stomach Problems?

I have been taking oral 500 mg Naproxen along with Endone for severe sciatic pain. I have Rheumatoid Arthritis, Coeliac Disease, Hashimoto s, chronic anaemia, and chronic gastritis. The gastritis flares up terribly even after 1 dose of Naproxen. I already take Zoton Fastabs twice a day. Naproxen as suppository has not been available here for a long time. Can I take the oral tablets rectally to attempt to bypass my stomach problems? I have been reading the absorption this way is similar to oral, but I am concerned about causing problems.

Hello,
No, you can not take oral medication per rectum.
Oral medications are prepared to dissolve and absorb in stomach-small intestine environment. Most of such medications require stomach acid, small intestine juices to absorb active particle from medication.
Any medications formulation must be in suppository form to retain in rectum for long time which allow sustained absorption. Thus any medication which mandate slow sustained absorption would require per rectal application.
There will be no enough absorption of active particle from oral tablet is inserted per rectum and there will not be any improvement in symptoms.

Hope I answered your symptoms. If you have any further doubts, i would be happy to help you.
Have a nice day!
