Can I Take Fosamax As I Have Dental Issues?

Yes, I have recently been informed that I have osteoporosis and my reading is -2.5. I also have arthritis, and symptoms from both in my neck which cause pain in my right shoulder. I am an active 75 year old female on a small dose of Premarin .03 mg/day, and have issues with my teeth and dental implants. The most recent ones requiring bone grafts. So far the implants are doing well, and I have been advised by my dentist to avoid Fosamax. What do you recommend? YYYY@YYYY

I read yor question carefully and I understand your concen.

Your dentist has a point as there are reports of Fosamax delaying healing after dental procedure and risking infections and jaw necrosis.
My suggestion is to postpone Fosamax for a while, give some months for your dental implants to heal and consolidate and after that I think it would be safe to start Fosamax for the osteoporosis.

I hope to have been of help.
