Can I Drink Alcohol When On Citalopram?
I was just prescribed Citalopram, but I haven t started taking it yet. My doctor said I can continue drinking wine, but I see lots of warning about alcohol. I am a 65-year-old retired school teacher. I don t take any other drugs, but this has been prescribed for anxiety.

dear sir I understand your concern.this drug citalopram is an ant depressant .the drug is metabolized with in liver.the alcohol if taken in high quantity will alter the function of liver and reduces the effective ness of the drug.there are many reports stating that people who use alcohol with this drug will have more suicidal tendency.kindly discuss in detail with your doctor about amount of alcohol and type of alcohol to be taken.....regards
