Can Hypertension Lead To Left Bundle Branch Block (LBBB)?

I have been diagnosed with LBBB years ago and did not know about it, recently done a ultrasound of heart to rule out any undelrying conditions, come back normal. Does my long term hypertension could cause the LBBB and can it be reversed if I loose weight?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi & Welcome.
I can understand your concern.
Yes, left bundle branch block can occur in patients with long term hypertension.

Most people with LBBB are symptom-free and do not need treatment.
However, if you get dizziness, headache, palpitation, or syncope (fainting) treatment with certain drugs like beta receptor blocker or a pacemaker will be effective.

Besides, BP lowering medications you need to have certain lifestyle changes like restriction of dietary salt, a regular exercise (walking/jogging) to reduce the body weight if your overweight can help in reducing the symptoms of LBBB. It is unlikely to be reversed if you reduce your body weight.

Hope this information helps you.
