Can Having Statin Cause Dizzy Spells While Bending?
I am a male 73 years of age. I have terrible dizzy spells when I get up fast or bending over. i have been thru a lot of tests. noone seems to know what is causing them I am on a statin, could that be the cause. I have been to ear, nose and throat specialist but nothing was wrong there, had mri on my head. that was good. dont know what to do. it is ruining my life,
The symptoms as mentioned in your post is attributed to Postural hypotension. It occurs due to pooling of blood in the lower limbs when you suddenly get up from sitting/ lying position. As a result of this blood accumulation in lower limbs, there is momentary reduction of blood supply to the brain, which is responsible for the dizzy spells.
So, kindly consult your General Physician & get your blood pressure checked once in lying down position & once in standing position. If there is a fall in systolic blood pressure by more than 10 mm of Hg, then the diagnosis of Postural hypotension will be confirmed.
Till then, maintain adequate hydration & nutrition status. And avoid changing of postures suddenly.
Wishing you a good health. Take care.
