Can Generous Amniotic Fluid Cause High Blood Sugar Levels?
Hello Doc. I am 35 weeks pregnant and have been diagnosed with high sugar levels from 28 weeks. It is the after meal values that is creating a concern. My Endocrinologist has directed me to check my sugar levels after every 1 hour (not 2 hours as is generally done) from the start of every meal. This I couldn t understand. Also is there any connection between the slightly generous amniotic fluid and sugar levels? My last sugar level report was 135 after meal.

I can understand your concerns.
Generally blood sugar is tested 2 hours after meal. Checking sugars just after 1 hour might give false values.
Yes in diabetes and high sugars are associated with high amniotic fluid levels.
The reasons are not entirely clear but i will advise you to get a congenital anomaly scan as sometimes babies of mothers with high sugars have malformations.
This does not mean that your baby will have it but it is better to be on the safer side by checking it .
Also keep your sugars under strict control by using ONLY insulin.
DO NOT use oral anti diabetic drugs.
