Can Enlarged Spleen Be Seen On Abdominal Xray?

If my spleen is enlarged, will it show up on the abdominal xray I had this morning? I saw the xrays as I was leaving and there was something large running down my side. I wondered if this could be my spleen, although it appeared to be on the wrong side.

Hello
Thanks for writing to HCM

Yes,enlarged spleen can be visualized in abdominal x-ray.It is seen as soft tissue opacity. However, further characterization is not possible in X-rays.
You need ultrasound of abdomen after evaluation.
Ultrasound can exactly assess size of spleen, any associated abnormality etc.It is important to see for other pathology also as enlarged spleen is associated with many conditions.
You should consult your physician.

Hope I have answered your question.
Take Care
