Can Endoscopy Be Combined With Colonoscopy? No Family History Of Colon Cancer

Good afternoon Dr. Grief. hope all is well with you. Do you think if I need to have a colonoscopy procedure. I will be fifty one in October. I don't have a family history with colon cancer. If i need to have it done can i combine endoscopy together with colonoscopy or should i do it separately. Please advice. I really appreciate all your help in this matter.

Regards,

HI, thanks for using healthcare magic

Colonoscopy is one of the screening methods for colon cancer. The other two methods are fecal occult blood and flexible sigmoidoscopy.

If Fecal occult blood testing is the person's chosen method of screening it has to be done every year.
If Flexible sigmoidoscopy is choosen it should be done every 5 years and if colonscopy is choosen as the screening method it should be done every 10 years.

In general it is recommended that persons start screening at age 50 and continue to age 75.

Based on this guidelines you should consider starting to screen.

I hope this helps
