Can Drinking LaCroix Carbonated Water Cause Headache?

Hi! I have had a headache everyday for the last 2 weeks. I have a history of sinus headaches and migraines, but have never had a headache last this long without being able to eventually get lasting relief. The first week I tried Exedrin and Sudafed, which usually relieves most of my headaches, but the pain kept returning. I read that taking Exedrin over a period of longer than 2 or 3 days could cause rebound headaches, so I stopped taking it, but was so uncomfortable that I tried taking Midrin, which my doctor had given me some time ago. Unfortunately, it didn t relieve the pain either. Since then, I ve gone back to the Exedrin, but have tried to only take it when I ve absolutely had to. I ve been trying to figure out what is going on, and one different beverage I ve been drinking lately is LeCroix carbonated water. Could that possibly contribute to my headaches? Do you have any ideas of what could be causing them or what I might try to relieve them? Thank you! Lisa Butterworth

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello, Welcome to ask a doctor services. I have read your query.

Since you have history of sinus headache & migraine you are suggested to use humidifier, nasal decongestants & nasal sprays. You can get clinically assessed & get sinus drained by an ENT. Take Naproxen(Aleve) for relieve.

LaCroix is basically carbonated naturally flavoured water. It has zero sugar, zero sugar, zero calories. Low sodium & low glucose levels cause imbalance in the electrolyt system of your body & thus trigger headache.

Take plenty of plain water with mineral content, take soups & juices. Avoid addictions if any, stay well hydrated. Get some caffeine, avoid strong lights, stress & anxiety. Stay relaxed.

Hope I have answered your question. Take care.
