Can A Person Take Xanax Before Endoscopy?
I have an endoscopy scheduled and have discussed with my doctor how panicked I feel about getting it. I do suffer from panic disorder and am prescribed lexapro 10mg and Xanax 0.25 as needed. My doctor said it would be fine to take my Xanax one hour prior to my procedure to ease my nerves. He will use propofol to sedate me I wanted a second opinion to see if these drugs would not interact.

I read your question carefully. I am at the same opinion as your doctor. You can take safely xanax before endoscopy under sedation. Eventhought,using propofol together with xanax may have increased effects on breathing, heart rate, blood pressure, and sedation, this is not to be worried in your case , because the dose of propofol used in endoscopy under sedation is low.
Be aware that is more safe not to drink water at least 2 hours before the procedure , so is better that you take xanax with a small amount of water at least 2 hours before endoscopy.The effect of xanax lasts at about 4 hours , so you will be really calm before the endoscopy.
Remember not to eat for 4-6 hours before the test. The stomach needs to be empty.
If you have a sedative you will need somebody to accompany you home.
