Can A Cavity Cause Ear Pain?

My son just started crying because he said he his ear hurt. I calmed him down within a minute and gave him some Tylenol. He does have a cavity that is scheduled to be filled tomorrow. And is also getting over a cold. Could this just be an ear ache? Or an ear infection?
