General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

I had gone through your question and understand your concern. Toprol (Metoprolol), can cause a slow heart rate, and also symptoms of heart failure.

Are you taking other antihypertensive drugs actually?

I suggest you to stop taking Toprol and also consult with your cardiologist for a heart rate measurement, blood pressure measurement, to evaluate for any heart failure and to switch to another drug.

You should continue taking Furosemide for the edema, it is necessary.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Suela Gjata,
