Can Sulphacetamide Be Applied For Treatment Of Swollen Eyelid?
Hi, I woke up yesterday morning and my right eyelid was sore when I blinked, and slightly swollen. It got progressively worse through the day, and this morning it is more swollen. We went to the chemist yesterday and they gave us an ointment called sulphacetamide. I applied it twice yesterday and once this morning. Should I carry on using it? Is there any way I can speed up the process of the swelling going down? And how long do you think this will last? Also, is it contagious? Thank you.
Hello It seems from the history that you are having swollen eyelid. This can occur because of inflammatory lesion of the glands of the eyelids. The treatment is by use of antibiotic eye drops or eye ointment and antiinflammatory drugs. Sulphacetamide is antibiotic and it can be used. Along with this use of antiinflammatory drugs and hot compression provides symptomatic relief. This is not contagious.
Thank you
