Can Sucralfate Be Take While On Levothyroxine?

Hi. I have been on levythyoxine for 20 years. I was just put on Sucralfate fir my stomach and I just read that it interferes with levythyroxine. Does it effect Synthroid the same way? I,m supposed to take the Sucralfate 4x day so it will be hard to space them out. I dont know what to do

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

Yes your are very right that Sucralfate can interfere with the absorption of Thyroxine, I generally advise patient to take them apart. This can be managed such that you could take Thyroxine 2 hours before the dose of the Sucralfate. So even if you taking it four times you still can make a gape of two hours with the dose of Thyroxine. And good thing for Thyroxine that it can be taken any time of the day so no worry if it is taken few hours up or down the day but take it 2 hours before any of the dose of Sucralfate.
