Can Serratia Marcescens, Pink Thing On Walls Be Cause Of Some Infection And Spread To Others ?

Hello, I believe that my family and I have been exposed to some type of bacteria in our home. We think this from the pink substance on our walls that is growing and has been confirmed to not be mold and that it may be Serratia Marcescens. The symptoms have become so severe that we are thinking of leaving our residence and going to a hotel. However, I do not want to spread any possible infection around to others.

Hi,
Welcome to HCM.

Serratia is an opportunistic pathogen which is commonly found in soil and water.
It can cause a variety of diseases depending on the immune system of the patient. The disease is more severe in immunocompromised patients. It is also one of the commonly resistant organisms to many broad spectrum antibiotics. I suggest you get a culture sensitivity test done of a wall swab which will confirm serratia and also give list of appropriate antibiotics which can be used to treat your family effectively.
Thorough cleaning of house is necessary. Painting the house with fresh paint may help get rid of the wall growth.
Thanks.
