Can Prednisone Increase The Effect Of Thyroid Medicine?
I take .88mcg of levoxyl daily (for 50 years). Recently needed oral prednisone for a month, starting with 40 mg dly, and h ave tapered off. Muscles in legs are tight, tense, kind of spastic. Would the prednisone increase the effect of thyroid med?
There is no interaction between Prednisone and Levoxyl.
Muscle cramps appear to be due to depletion of potassium in the body caused by steroids like Prednisone.
These cramps can be prevented by taking potassium supplements or foods rich in potassium such as bananas, orange juice, raisins, spinach, apricots. Drink more water, stretch your calf muscles and you can add a calcium supplement to your diet to ease leg muscle cramps.
Hope the advice given above would be useful.
