Can Monistat Be Taken While On Fluconazole?

Hi, I have had to be on antibiotics for a while due to tooth abscess/root canal, and then acute bronchitis. I have a prescription for fluconazole, which I just took. Is it okay to also use monistat, even though I already took the fluconazole? Thank you for any advice you can give.

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

If you took oral Diflucan, usually topical/intravaginal antifungals such as Monistat will not be necessary. Using the intravaginal Monistat in addition will increase your blood levels (some of it is absorbed) so best to wait to see if just the Diflucan alone will do the trick. Be sure to take a good quality probiotic too.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
