Can Mini Pill Be Taken While Having Undiagnosed Vaginal Bleeding?

I have been diagnosed with a mild cervical ectropion. I d like to go on the mini pill but don t know if this will aggregate the situation. I know they say you shouldn t take the mini pill if you have undiagnosed vaginal bleeding, but my doctor thinks the ectropion is what caused post coital bleeding for me, so is this safe?

Hi,

As long as you are undergoing a workup for the vaginal bleeding you can take the mini pill. If you are sexually active and need contraception you should use something (condoms, the pill, etc.) to prevent pregnancy especially if you are being evaluated for abnormal uterine bleeding.

The mini pill is usually prescribed to women that are breastfeeding. If you are not breastfeeding the failure rate can be much higher than the regular pill and condoms should always be used as a backup or to prevent sexually transmitted diseases. You should continue to f/u with your provider and discuss the minipill with them as well.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
