Hi,I am Dr. Santosh Kondekar (Pediatrician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My son, 4 years old, had high fever (went up to 102.4 C) last night. I gave him paracetamol (5 ml) at 9pm yesterday and again at 3am today morning. Now at 7 am again I see he has about 101.7 C temperature. Shall I give him Meftal? If yes, what would be the right dosage? His weight is 19 kg. Please suggest.
Hi...Thank you for consulting in Health Care magic.
Fevers are viral 95% of the times in children. Paracetamol can be given in the dose of 15mg/kg/dose every 4-6th hourly, that too only if temperature is more than 100F. I suggest not using combination medicines for fever, especially with Paracetamol.
Meftal-P contains Mefenamic acid which is a NSAID. It carries the risk of gastritis and renal problems in the long run. Please do not use Meftal-P.
