Hello doctor, I want to plan my 2nd pregnancy after 2 months...so I started using folic acid tablets from two weeks before of dose 5 mg once a day even before starting planning my pregnancy because my husband is in abroad for short term ?..can I use this dose of folic acid before planning for pregnancy? And usually I get my periods for 28 days cycle this time though it is 30 days still i didn t get my periods? Does folic acid affect my period cycle in anyway?

Hello,
I have gone through your query and here are your answers: 1. Folic acid can be used as a prenatal vitamin supplement. It is the methyl tetrahydro folate that is useful. Folates can also be had through food. 2. Folic acid does not delay a period. If you have always been on time for your menstrual cycles, if you are not sexually active currently, think of a transient hormone imbalance. This can happen with sudden weight changes, stress, infections etc. If you do not see your period even after a week after it is due, see your health care provider for further help. Hope this helps.
