I am on a prescription of sulfameth/trimethoprim 800/160 tabs 1 tablet every 12 hours for sinus infection, have been taking since 8/27 and have just broken out in hives. I am going to stop taking. Can I take a benadryl for the hives with this medication in my system?

Hello,
Thank you for the post on HCM,
As You are having sinusitis for which you are taking Tab Cotrimaxazole.
You may be allergic to this drug as it contains sulphur.
Because of this you may be having hives, For my patients after examination I would have advised him to stop the medicine.
I would have prescribed other Antibiotics for the infection, if they are having hives i would have suggested Oral anti allergy drugs.
You can follow this on consultation with your treating doctor.
Hope I have answered your query. If you any query I will be happy to answer your queries.
Thank you.
