Can I Take Benadryl To Sleep After Mitral Valve Replacement ?

My husband had a mitral valve replacement last week (cow s valve was used). He is taking coumadin for about 3 months. If he has gas, is he able to take Gas-X. Also can he take Benedryl to sleep. The hospital gave him both when he was admitted but I don t believe he was taking coumadin at that time. Thanks!

Hi. Welcome to HCM.
1.Mitral valve replacement with cow's valve does not require coumadin on Longterm basis, so u can stop coumadin now.
2. Second he can take gas X for gas problem but better he make good dietary habits.
-regular timings
-avoid excessive potato, cauliflower, cabbage etc.
-avoid heavy meals at one time.
3 . benadryl is actually a cough remedy, it's side effect is sleepiness. DON'T Take benadryl for sleep.. Consult your doctor about that he will prescribed you better tabs. - tab alprazolam etc. DON'T TAKE DRUGS WITHOUT PRESCRIPTION.
Have a nice day.
