Can H.Pylori Cause Stomach Cancer?

Hi Doctor, I have been experiencing some Gastritis problem for almost 4 years. When I consulted my Gastroenterologist, they asked me to undergo an endoscopy which I already did. They told me that I have H.Pylori infection and they say something called Antral Gastritis (Not sure I am spelling it right). They asked me to take Sompraz HP kit for 14 days which I am currently following. However, I am scared and afraid that this may lead to stomach cancer. Is it true that H.Pylori may lead to stomach cancer? To be honest, I use alcohol once a week and don t smoke. I appreciate your reply.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori) is a type of bacteria.

H. pylori is responsible for the majority of peptic ulcers, as well as chronic gastritis and potentially gastric cancer.

It can be treated with antibiotics.

I also suggest to avoid food that can trigger the symptoms such as spicy food.

Stress can also trigger the symptoms.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,

Dr. Dorina Gurabardhi
