Can HCTZ Be Taken For Swollen Feet While Having Ulcerative Colitis?

I have ulcerative colitis and all of a sudden my feet are swollen the size of footballs, my bottom is raw from the bloody mucus discharge, my mouth and tongue have blisters and my fingertips are cracked and splitting. My doctors don t seem to know what to do for me. I have tried Casasa suppositories and Prednisone. Neither worked. Now I am taking Triamterene/HCTZ 75/50 for swelling. Azathioprine for the ulcerative colitis and Diphenoxylate/Atrophine for the diarrhea.

Hi,

HCTZ is diuretic drug and it is meant to eliminate excess fluid from your body. You can safely take HCTZ along with your routine drugs. If symptoms persist you have to consult a physician and get evaluated to look for possible causes like kidney disorders and low protein.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Shinas Hussain,
