Can Diladid Be Used Instead Of Contin To Hold Me Over And What Dosage ?

I am currently taking hydromorphcontin 24mg.x3 twice a day. I also use 4mg. Diladid for breakthru pain. Unfortunately, I have ran out of the contin a couple of days prior to refill. I have plenty diladid on hand can I use them to hold me over & what dosage? Doug

I am so sorry to hear about this pain and you running out of this drug. It is a good idea get your pain controlled using the medication that you already have. However, it would be best to be adjusted by your doctor. Decisions about dosage and interval is greatly influenced by age, weight, renal function, etc. This constitutes vital information that cannot be gotten to make a sound recommended dose to you. Also, it would be a nice idea for your doctor to know you ran out of this drug so that he can consider increasing the number of tablets to be served. Please, talk to your treating physician!
