Can Bupropian HCL Cause A Seizure?

My sister just had 2 seizures on Saturday and was rushed to the hospital. They discharged her on Sunday. She remembers nothing the day it occurred. They ran a CT scan, MRI, and EEG. The only thing that appeared was a thinning on the part of the brain which is for your memory. They indicated this is common with age and my sister is 67. She just had a second bypass done on her leg 10 days prior but that went very well. I was not aware she was taking the Wellbutrin XL (bupropian hcl 300 mg 1/day)for probably the past 7-10 days to assist in quiting smoking. She was and is on the current medications - Plavix 75 mg 1/day, metoprolol 50 mg 1/2 - twice a day, simvastatin 40 mg 1/day, 81 aspriin 1/day. Could the Bupropian HCL caused her seizure? We have no family history of seizures.

Thanks for your question on Healthcare Magic.
I can understand your concern.
Yes, Bupropion in high doses can cause a seizure. She must have taken more than the prescribed dose. Usual dose is 100 mg per dose twice daily. She must consult again for dose modification. Smoking cessation medications must always be taken under supervision.

Take care,
Regards
