Can Benicar HCT And Lisinopril Be Taken Together?

I was told by two pharmacists that I did not need to take Benicar HCT 40/25 MG and Lisinopril 20 MG at the same time because they are basically the same medication. Blood pressure readings have been high taking both. My nephrologist added Labetalol 200 MG twice a day because of CKD stage III. During a hospital stay I was not given Benicar HCT. The blood pressure was pretty good. Should I start taking Benicar again? High pertension 40 years, diabetes 30 years, rheumatoid arthritis 57 years (juvenile) Chronic Kidney Disease 5 months, neuroendocrine cancer tumor 2 years.

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

Benicar HCT is having olmesartan and Hydrochlorthiazide combination. Olmesartan is contraindicated in CKD (chronic kidney disease) patients. So better not to take Benicar HCT. Continue with labetalol (as advised by Nephrologist) and lisinopril. Strict control of diabetes is also needed.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
