What Causes Severe Cough While On Benicar?

I use to be on Benicar HCT 20mg 12.5 mg once tablet per day. It worked very well with no side effects. My insurance stop paying for Benicar so my physician switched me to Losartin HCT 20 mg 12.5 mg tablet once per day. I am having a very bad cough with this prescription as well as cold-like symptoms. I am going to the doctor this week and request that I am switched to Omesartan Medoxomil HCT 20 mg 12.5 mg tablet. Is this the generic brand for Benicar HCT? My insurance will pay for this one.

Benicar HCT which is a combination of two medications Olmesartan (an angiotensin II receptor antagonist) and Hydrochlorothiazide(a thiazide diuretic) effectively used in the treatment of high blood pressure (hypertension).

Its common side effects include hyperkalemia (increased blood potassium), hypotension, and angioedema (swelling of the face). It is unlikely to cause severe cough.

Olmesartan Medoxomil HCT also contains the same ingredients (Olmesartan plus Hydrochlorothiazide) as that of Benicar HCT hence it may be taken as prescribed by your doctor.
