Hi,I am Dr. Amitkumar Sharma (Internal Medicine Specialist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Hi, I am a 60-year old woman recent (6 weeks ago) diagnosed with High Blood pressure. I started taking Benazepril, 5 mg for two weeks, when that did not seem to help, my doctor increased to 10 mg (per day). This past week I have had some light menstrual type bleeding and I m wondering if the medication may cause this. I have not had a menstrual period since 2008. Thank you for any advice.
Welcome to HCM! Benazepril does not cause bleeding as its side effect, it is known to cause dry cough, swelling of the lips, and some time breathing difficulty. Since your last menstrual cycle was way back in 2008 i.e., almost 6 years so the bleeding from the vagina is not normal. This is called as post menopausal vaginal bleeding. Kindly consult a gynecologist for proper evaluation and treatment. I hope it is not a matter of serious concern. Best regards!
