Can Aleve Aggravate Kidney Disorder And Cause Internal Bleeding In The Stomach?
My mother in law is 91 years old and is in pain all the time. She takes tramadol twice a day and it does not ease her. Pain management has cut her dosage in half since the opioid problem. She has a sensitive stomach and kidney problems. She is just miserable. Now she is trying to take Aleve OTC and I m concerned that this may make her kidney problem worse or cause bleeding in her stomach. She is still taking the tramadol.
Sorry to hear of her problem. You are right Aleve may damage the stomach and may also harm the kidney.
Its use is not recommended in such patients however its use for a few days may be safe still it's better not to use this drug. A better option is opioid in such patients.
If he is not relaxed with tramadol we can use stronger analgesia .better is tp tale him to a pain clinic where his pain can be a dressed properly.
If he used Aleve anyhow, he should take some antacid with it as well to avoid stomach problems.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
