Allergist and Immunologist 's  Response
Hello.

Thank you for asking at HCM.

I went through your history and would like to make following suggestions to you:

1. Yes, Advair is an inhaled corticosteroid (Fluticasone) which is used to treat cough and wheezing due to asthma.

I would suggest you to please take it regularly as suggested by your doctor. It is a "controller" type of medicine which prevents symptoms, so needs to be taken regularly irrespective of symptoms.

2. If you have wheezing/breathlessness despite using Fluticasone, I would suggest you to use salbutamol inhaler on as-and-when-needed basis, which is a "rescue" type of inhaler.

3. With proper use of above two types of inhalers, you will be able to remain symptoms free.

Please make sure that your technique of using inhaler is perfect to ensure drug is entering lungs in necessary amount. Please rinse mouth after use of inhalers.

4. Were I treating you, I would add regular montelukast to your treatment in addition to inhalers. It may reduce requirement of inhalers and improve control of asthma.

5. I would also suggest you allergy testing for house dust mites, cockroach proteins and common molds in your region.

Based on the allergy testing, an Allergist-Immunologist may prescribe you allergen specific immunotherapy which works on immune system to gradually improve allergy symptoms.

6. In general, please avoid exposure to dusts, smokes and air pollution.

7. I would also suggest you regular breathing exercises and a healthy diet which will help you in a long run by improving your lung capacity and immunity respectively.

Hope above suggestions will be helpful to you.

Should you have any further query, please feel free to ask at HCM.

Wish you a very good health ahead.

Thank you & Regards.
