Came Out Of Hospital With Diverticulitis. Severe Pounding Headaches. Can Take A Cup Of Coffee Or Drugs?

Hi
I have just come out of hospital with Divictalitis and before going in I used to drink at least 6-10 cups of coffee a day, but during my 4 day stay in hospital I had no coffee and decided now is a good time to quit as it may help with my colon problem too. I am 50 years old and now I have another problem I wake every morning just after three in the morning with very severe pounding headaches. I am a migraine suffer but these headaches are different. I decided to google it and it seems that I may now have hypnic headache headaches and was wondering is it better to rather have a cup of coffee before going to bed or take drugs. I am just frightened that I get addicted to the coffee again and end up with the same old problem.
Please can you help me?

Hi,
Welcome to HCM.
Diverticulitis usually occurs above age 40 where the intestinal wall becomes less elastic, in persons having very little fiber in their diet, obese individuals and very common in smokers. Coffee as such is not a risk factor for diverticulitis. I would suggest coffee rather than drugs as medications are not without side effects. Avoid medications as much as possible. Coffee will definitely help with the migraine. Strong will plays an important role to avoid addictions. It totally depend on you to control the number of coffee cups per day. I hope I have answered your query satisfactorily. Thanks
