Arm Below Elbow Is Extremely Sensitive To Touch And Pressure. Home Remedies.

Hello. I fell and hit my arm below my elbow on a wooden staircase and developed a large hematoma. I treated the site with ice and elevation and the swelling has reduced somewhat, but now has white lines visible across the bruise and I am concerned that it is abnormal for a basic healing bruise. My arm has slightly numb With some tingling at times. I am questioning whether I may have fractured my bone or damaged a muscle, etc. The hurt site is extremely sensitive to touch and pressure. Is seeking medical attention recommended or can this heal on its own in time? What treatment should I seek or do myself? Thank you for your time.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi there,

I am sorry for the large hematoma you experienced while hitting your arm. The white lines at the site of hematoma is indicating that it is under healing process (hematoma is being subsided).

Numbed arms and tingling feeling at times is related to local trauma during the hit and related hematoma. If any bone could have been fractured, you'd have severe pain especially while moving your arm. As you are not referring such pain, but only sensitivity, I do not think you have fractured any bone. However, to rest assured, I'd suggest to do an X-ray of the injured arm and see the changes.

As your hematoma is being subsided, and if it has been passed more than 3 days from the day of the accident, I'd suggest to apply heparin cream locally to accelerate the healing process. Try to limit or avoid moving the injured arm.

Wish speedy recovery!
