Are Spetic Shocks Normal When Diagnosed With Pilocytic Astrocytoma?

My husband has pilocytic astrocytoma. The tumors are multiple, not one large tumor which could have been removed surgically. They are on the cerebellum and also in the left frontal lobe. He had whole brain radiation last August, but is still not walking and speech is still bad. He has had MRI s every 3 months since last August to monitor the growth of the tumors with no new growth. We will also ask his neuro oncologist why it seems he is not improving, but just wanted another opinion. He also experienced septic shock last July, plus hemorraghic shock and then had the whole brain radiation. He lost the use of his right arm due to the hemorraghic shock, which caused blood to pool all over his body, but was worse in the right arm. He has movement in his arm, but the wrist is not laying flat . All so depressing. Thanks for any advice, thoughts, etc. YYYY@YYYY

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello,

As per my clinical experience, the septic shock is not a normal or frequently encountered sequence of pilocytic astrocytoma. However, as there is history of irradiation to brain, the systemic side effect of the same would be immuno suppression and which can secondarily lead to development of multiple opportunistic infections with virulent bacteria, virus or fungi. If any of the current reports data are available with you, kindly send me immediately for further guidelines and assessment.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Bhagyesh V. Patel, General Surgeon
