Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Are Nausea, Headaches And Mild Abdominal Cramping Symptoms Of Food Poisoning?
Is there a mild form of salmonella poisoning? If so, how long does it typically last? I have been experiencing nausea, headache, mild cramping and diarrhea off and on for several days, but never any vomiting. Sudden onset about a day after eating a submarine sandwich.
It seems you have developed a food poisoning. Whether it is salmonella infection or not can only be determined after a stool culture. You need to take an antibiotic or antiprotozoal course depending on the result s of the culture. Meanwhile, you can take a proton pump inhibitor to relieve nausea. Keep your self hydrated by taking Oral rehydration therapy at regular intervals. You can take probiotic sachets twice daily which will help to restore the normal intestinal flora and speed up your recovery.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards, Dr. Nazma.amman
