Are Hot Flashes And Horrible Smell In Period Blood Symptoms Of Menopause?

im 47 years old. I have always bled regularly on a 28 day cycle. I think im approaching menapause because ive been having really intense hot flashes, and my period had a horrible smell in the blood. It never smelled like that ever. Like rotten blood odor. and the blood was kind of dark. is that normal?

OB & GYN Specialist 's  Response
Hello,

Hot flashes could be a sign of menopause and the age is also appropriate. Rotten blood smell is not a sign of menopause, because it indicates either infection or some pathology in the uterus which is causing the blood to smell. Would advice you to meet a local gynecologist to rule out infection and if possible get an ultrasound done to rule out possible pathology.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
